Designing chocolate bars in Berlin

Ritter Sport

Chocolate lovers, prepare yourself. ChocoWorld Berlin will blow your mind.

From the outside it looks like an ordinary chocolate shop. But step through the doors at ChocoWorld and you are greeted with three floors of Ritter Sport chocolatey goodness.

Inside you can indulge in delicious chocolate delights and learn about how chocolate is made, from cocoa bean through to wrapped up chocolate bar. The educational stuff is all well and good, but I visited ChocoWorld for one reason and one reason only: to design my own chocolate bar.

Ritter Sport chocolate is yummy how it is, there’s no disputing that. Personally I like a nice bar of hazelnut or coconut chocolate. But I just couldn’t resist the chance to play Willy Wonka for the day and try my own.

At the ChocoCreations bar you can pick between a milk or dark chocolate base (white chocolate is also offered in the summer) and then go crazy with different toppings and things to mix in. It’s a bit like a Cold Rock ice creamery, but better.

There are so many ingredients to choose from it’s hard to decide. Some of the ingredients on offer:

  • Hazlenuts
  • Almonds
  • Strawberries
  • Cranberries
  • Fruit gummies
  • Coconut flakes
  • Vanilla cookies
  • Mint smarties
  • Colourful sugar crumbles
  • Cornflakes
  • Muesli
  • Chilli
  • Coco nibs

Plus a whole bunch of specials that change all the time. When I was there at Christmas time gingerbread pieces and gold sugar stars were on offer and of course I took advantage of both. Don’t even question gingerbread in a chocolate bar. It was simply sensational.

Topping choices

Once you’ve filled out your order form the wonderful chocolate makers get to work making your creation. There’s something very satisfying about seeing your chocolate bar come to life.

The process of the chocolate setting takes about 20 minutes but for us that was enough time to explore the rest of the shop, look at the exhibits and painstakingly decide what chocolates to buy. Chocolate bars are much cheaper that in grocery shops and there are often package deals, great for presents! They’ll package or gift wrap your chocolate for you, but I couldn’t resist having a bite of my creation straight away. Just looks at those delicious sugar stars.
